๐ World Food Safety Day.: Ensuring Safe Food, Saving LivesBy AIM Foundation
๐Every year on June 7, the world comes together to recognize World Food Safety Day, raising awareness about one of the most fundamental aspects of our well-being — the safety of the food we consume. At AIM Foundation, we believe that safe food is not a privilege but a basic human right. On this important occasion, we recommit ourselves to promoting food safety as a critical part of our mission to build healthier, more resilient communities.
๐ Why Food Safety Matters
Unsafe food is a threat to human health and economies — particularly affecting vulnerable and marginalized populations, including children, the elderly, and those with preexisting health conditions. According to the WHO, an estimated 600 million people — almost 1 in 10 globally — fall ill after eating contaminated food each year, resulting in 420,000 deaths.
Contamination can occur at any point in the food chain, from production and processing to transportation and storage. That’s why food safety is everyone’s responsibility — from farm to table.
๐ฏ This Year’s Theme: “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected”
In 2025, the theme reminds us that food safety risks can arise unexpectedly — from natural disasters, pandemics, and economic disruptions to contamination and supply chain failures. Being prepared is not just about emergency response; it's about building systems that are strong, resilient, and inclusive.
At AIM Foundation, we work with communities to:
Educate food handlers and families on hygienic practices
Promote sustainable and safe agricultural practices
Support initiatives that ensure clean water and safe food in rural and urban slums
Advocate for stronger food safety laws and their effective implementation
๐จ๐ฉ๐ง๐ฆ Our Initiatives on the Ground
In celebration of World Food Safety Day 2025, AIM Foundation organized:
✅ Food Hygiene Awareness Camps in underprivileged neighborhoods in Kolkata, focusing on mothers and street food vendors
✅ Workshops for School Children on how to identify and avoid unsafe food practices
✅ Distribution of Educational Materials in regional languages, spreading vital food safety messages
✅ Collaborations with Local Authorities to monitor food quality in public distribution systems
๐ฑ A Call to Action
As individuals, we can all contribute to safer food systems:
Wash hands, surfaces, and food properly
Cook food at the right temperature
Store food safely and consume it within recommended timeframes
Check labels and expiry dates
Support local, ethical food producers
At AIM Foundation, we envision a future where no child goes to bed hungry or sick because of unsafe food. But we cannot do this alone. We invite governments, businesses, civil society, and YOU to join the movement.
Because when food is safe, life is better.
